Ainsley Matich & The Broken Blues
Ainsley Matich & The Broken Blues
Ainsley Matich and the Broken Blues is the brain-child and dream-project of local New Orleans musician Ainsley Matich. Since moving to New Orleans in 2006, she has been soaking up the sounds and soul of this unique city, writing songs inspired by events and emotions that have taken place during her time here - songs that blur the line between fiction and truth, as all good stories do. But the life of a lonely solo songwriter was not for her. No, this music needed a band to be fully realized, to show off what it really could become.

That's where the Broken Blues stepped in. Made up of Jonathan Solomon on upright bass, Joseph Bouche on the drums, Andy Bower on tenor and bari saxophone, Fritz Barrau on trumpet, and a rotating cast of trombone players, the Broken Blues have become the true inspiration in Ainsley's writing process. Part blues, part funk, part old school pop, part country and part rock n roll, you'll have a hard time putting them under just one genre; but take one listen, and you'll know you made the right decision.

Influenced by the likes of Janis Joplin, Amy Winehouse and Koko Taylor, Matich belts out lyrics like they're escaping from her soul. Her piano style is a combination of James Booker and Norah Jones, mixed with a little honky tonk and down home blues, creating a nuanced style that can be both sweet and dirty at the same time. Add in Solomon and Bouche and you get a conversation between three of New Orleans best up and coming musicians, each putting their own spin on the discussion. Laid out on top of all this are Matich's horn lines - trumpet, sax and trombone coming together with tight harmonies and nasty licks that grow from the rhythm section's groove. There is no other band quite like this.

Sutton James Papanikolas
Sutton James Papanikolas has recently embarked on his first official solo endeavor. The San Diego Music Award-nominated singer/songwriter has just released his debut solo album, “High Country Hiatus”. He has been on a North American tour for the majority of 2018 supporting it’s release. SJP — known for fronting groups including Shaggin Wagon, Help I'm Alive, Stallion and most recently, Neighbors To The North — is a lover and performer of all periods of music. Even though his most recent efforts fit quite nicely within the indie-folk/alt-country genres, the spirit of rock n' roll will always be alive and well in his songwriting, as well as his engagingly energetic live shows.
