Handmade Moments
Handmade Moments
An amalgam of Beatnik porch-jazz, mystical mountain song, circus folk-hop with a dash of R&B chanteuse, Handmade Moments are kaleidoscopic children of the Ozarks. Anna Moss and Joel Ludford are kindred spirits and multi-instrumentalists, reveling in everything from bass clarinet, saxophone, sousaphone, mandolin, and stand-up bass. Their 2018 release, Paw Paw Tree, is ripe with plain-spoken poetics woven within swirling, funky rhythms, and atop melodies that tug on the heartstrings. Their wildly-popular live performances run the gamut, bathing in Southern roots, R&B, folk, jazz and more."

A continuous kick drum pounding through the speakers, an invisible choir created from scratch a few seconds ago, a guitar strummed so fast all you hear is the slapback of the steel strings against the wood, chords to hard to discern, and after a loud scream away from the mic, all comes to a sudden stop, and he turns a powerful anthem into a softly whispered lullaby.”
Julian Hernandez, just arrived from Argentina, came to New Orleans with an already proven track record of wowing audiences throughout his home country for over 7 years, starting out playing on the streets and subways since the age of 15.
Sounding like a combination of old Bon Iver and Mos Def over Argentine folklore rhythms like Zamba and Chacarera, Hernandez plays a storytelling show and performs his music with indigenous Argentine instruments, or by layering his own voice and beatbox with looping, or sometimes just an acoustic guitar.
Julian released the album Fuera de Casa in 2015 and quickly got featured in MuchMusic and Rolling Stone’s Top 5 of the Week, and garnered thousands of passionate listeners for his songs Si Es Con Vos and Dame La Mano.
After a brief hiatus performing in the duo Axtell, Hernandez has taken a new direction in 2019 and started releasing his first solo singles in English.
